our story
Hey y'all! We're Shan and Kelly — thanks for being here! We're two good friends who share the same passion for events, creating joyful moments, and finding reasons (big or small) to celebrate.
We first met while planning cultural events and designing photo booth experiences for a local non-profit. Through this experience, we bonded over our similar backgrounds in photography, graphic design, and event planning.
It so happened that we started planning our weddings around the same time and both struggled to find photo booth vendors that offered unique backdrops and a modern aesthetic at an affordable rate. Overwhelmed by the number of package options, booth types, and overpriced gimmicky features, we joked about starting our own business.
A few months later, we started Wonderjoy.
Shan Koay
Co-founder & CEO
Shan has over 10 years of experience in Event and Program Management and is always looking for an excuse to bring people together. She has led over 350+ events including VIP experiences, galas, pop-ups, workshops, retreats, and private parties. Shan also has a background in graphic design and loves using her skills to help small businesses, entrepreneurs, and non-profits.
Some of her favorite things include: Hosting and sharing delicious meals with friends, fresh fruit juices, discovering new snacks, dancing, board games, and being a cat mama.
KELLY ZHu
Co-founder & CCO
Kelly has been capturing memorable moments since receiving her first camera at age eight. She has been a freelance photographer for over a decade with a background in documentary and editorial photography. She also enjoys portraiture, studio, food, and travel photography. Her work has been featured in the Austin American Statesman, The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, and the Asian American Resource Center. For the last five years, she has focused on content creation for a variety of local artists, brands, and companies.
Some of her favorite things include: Traveling, yoga, drinking tea, binge watching k-dramas, going to concerts, photo editing, and being a dog mom.
